This Champagne, produced by Bollinger (no need to introduce this Maison), is made from 61% Pinot Noir and 39% Chardonnay grape varieties; assembling the grapes from 19 crus. The Pinot Noir grapes were from Ay and Verzenay, while the Chardonnay ones came from vineyards located in Chouilly and Oiry.
The fermentation of the base wines took place entirely in barrels; the second fermentation in the bottle was of course followed by lees aging (sur lie) for more than 6 years, for this aging phase the bottles were sealed with natural cork.
📝 Bollinger's “La Grande Année” 2014 has an intense and bright gold colour. On the nose, initially, fruity aromas of peach and mango and then it opens the way to aromas of almond, bread, toast and spices. More aromas followed as the wine opened more in the beautiful glass produced by Zalto 👏 . On the palate, it is very intense and perfectly balanced, able to combine beautifully the creaminess with its fresh and mineral texture, the same happens with the flavours whereas the citrus notes are perfectly balanced by sweeter ones reminiscent of honey. Long finish.
