The Lanson Gold Top Brut vintage 1999 still holds decent pressure behind the cork, though the anticipation of plenty of bubbles was lacking in the glass.
A deeper golden colour on show with faint trickles of fine bubbles doing their best to maintain themselves.
I suggest a decent sized bowled glass and to give the wine plenty of time to open up, I might even suggest a decant on this one as the aromas and flavours change vastly with some patience!
Golden fruits on the nose with soft honey / oak / vanilla with a less pleasing hint of mushrooms and general tiredness expressed.
Flavours definitely gives the impression of an older, umami style Champagne with dried yellow stone fruit skins, golden brown pastry, lemon, saline. Decent length showing a soft nuttiness at close.
I'd say it is certainly past it's best, though still a delight to experience.
